KeraSoy Pillar Blend is a blend specially developed for the production of Pillar candles, stump candles, wax melts and wax cakes. It is suitable for further mixing with fragrances and oil-soluble dyes. Kerasoy Pillar is biodegradable and vegan friendly. No animal products are used and no animal testing has been carried out in its manufacture. KeraSoy Pillar Blend needs no additives other than fragrance and color that the candle maker needs. Old or partial candles can be melted down and the wax can be reused, but it is recommended not to heat the wax above 85°C or to heat it for a long time. Waxes should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct heat, sunlight and moisture.

Please note that this wax may come in pastille or flake form.

Candle mold

The candle mold must be clean and free of contaminants. They should be at least at room temperature, but preheating to about 45 – 50°C can be beneficial.

candle color

Most dyes work with KeraSoy Pillar; powder, liquid, blocks, etc. When using powder dyes, heat the wax to approx. 75°C, add the dye and mix until dissolved. Powder dyes can also be dissolved in fragrance and then added to the melted wax. Make sure the dye is completely dissolved before adding it. When using powder dyes, liquid dyes or color blocks dissolved in fragrance, heat the wax to 70°C. If you want to make your candle darker or “richer”, add a little black food coloring to the color you are using.

Candles fragrance oil

KeraSoy Pillar is designed for fragrances between 5 – 10%. A fragrance specially formulated for use with natural waxes is highly recommended. The size and depth of the fire bath has a major impact on odor release, so proper drainage is paramount. Some fragrances can react badly with the wax and can cause bleeding, unpleasant surface finishes or poor flame quality. Therefore, always test before making a large batch of candles.

White

Natural waxes generally require larger wicks than traditional paraffin waxes. Scent, color and candle configuration have a major influence on the best wick choice. A wick that is too large can cause soot, accelerated burn times and gutters (wax leaking through the side of the candle). A wick that is too small will cause tunneling and produce a smaller flame. If you experience poor flame quality or stability, try a different type of wick. Test firing should be done after the candle has been standing for 48 hours after pouring.

To melt

Temporary high temperatures (up to 90°C) have no adverse effect as long as the wax has cooled down quickly. At higher temperatures, the wax may discolour. Allow the wax to cool to the desired pouring temperature, add the fragrance and mix well. Be sure to stir/mix the wax as you melt. Avoid using Pillars containing copper and zinc as this can accelerate discoloration. Stainless steel is the material of choice, although mild steel is acceptable. Digital temperature probes are readily available and are a safer choice than the traditional ones made of glass.

Casting

The casting temperatures may vary depending on the mold type and size, fragrance, dye used and the effects the candle maker wants to achieve. Fragrance should be added and mixed immediately before pouring whenever possible. If you’re having trouble with your pouring temperature, try a lower or higher temperature in steps of 5 – 10°C. Consider pouring into preheated molds so that you can easily remove the candle from the mold.

Double casting

KeraSoy Pillar is formulated in such a way that you can pour in one go. Some large candles require a top-up to achieve the best candle surface. A small amount of wax at a slightly warmer temperature than the candle was cast at can be used to top up the candle before the candle has completely cooled (refilling once the candle has completely cooled may reduce adhesion).

candle cooling

Cool undisturbed candles to room temperature (about 25°C). Candles should be left undisturbed for 48 hours before being tested.
