A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) or Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is an essential document that contains comprehensive information on safety and health when handling hazardous substances. This document is an obligation for manufacturers, importers and distributors within the European Union and beyond. With our service you can order your MSDS directly through our webshop, quickly and easily.
Why is a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) or Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) important?
A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) or Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is essential for ensuring the safety of workers, users and the environment. It helps with:
- Identifying potential risks when using a product.
- Implementing appropriate security measures.
- Complying with legal obligations such as REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) and CLP (Classification, Labeling and Packaging).
How does it work?
The process is simple and transparent:
- Order in our webshop: Choose the desired service and place your order.
- Submitting information: After your order, you will receive instructions to collect the required information.
- Analysis and Formatting: Our team gets to work drafting or checking the SDS.
- Revision and delivery: You will receive your safety data sheet.
When do you need a VIB?
A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is required in various situations where products are manufactured, sold or used that contain or may release chemicals.
In most cases, a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is not required if you sell exclusively to consumers (B2C). Here are the main guidelines:
When is an SDS needed?
- B2B (Business-to-Business):
A SDS is required when you supply chemical substances or mixtures to other companies, especially if they are classified as hazardous under the CLP (Classification, Labeling, and Packaging) regulations. - B2C (Business-to-Consumer):
When selling to consumers, a SDS is in principle not required. However, you must comply with labeling requirements and provide clear safety information. This applies especially to products that may pose risks, such as hazard symbols, warnings and instructions for use.
Exceptions for B2C
Some situations do require a VIB, even for B2C sales:
- At a customer’s request:
If a consumer explicitly requests a VIB, you are obligated to provide it. - Professional use:
If your product is intended for professional use, such as DIY stores that supply professionals, a SDS may still be required. - European regulations:
A SDS may be required for certain chemical products or substances covered by specific EU directives (such as solvents, certain cleaning agents or fuels). - PCN (Poison Center Notification)
For products covered by CLP regulations that require a unique formula identifier (UFI), a SDS is required to communicate the safety of the product through the PCN(Poison Center Notification).
If you sell exclusively to consumers and your products are properly labeled, a SDS is usually not required. However, if you sell to businesses or offer products for professional use, you must make sure you have a SDS available.
An SDS ensures that your customers and users have all the information they need to work safely with the substances.
