Himalayan Crystal Salt formed over 250 million years ago during the disappearance of the original ocean. It is harvested by hand on the Tibetan high plains. Salt from the Himalayas used to be called “salt of the king” because the very high quality salt was only sold to the local nobility. The pink color comes from the minerals that the salt has absorbed such as sodium chloride, magnesium and calcium.
