KeraSoy Container 4130 is a candle wax developed specifically for the production of container candles. It is suitable for further mixing with fragrances and oil-soluble dyes. KeraSoy Container candle wax is biodegradable and vegan friendly. No animal products are used and no animal testing was done in production. This wax comes in pastille form.

Kerasoy 4130 candle wax

KeraSoy Container 4130 requires no additives other than fragrance and color prescribed by the candle maker. Old or partial candles can be melted down and the wax reused, although it is advisable not to heat the wax above 85°C or for an extended period. The wax should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct heat, sunlight and moisture.

Candle containers

Containers must be clean and free of contaminants. The container should be at least at room temperature, although preheating to about 45 – 50°C may be helpful.

Candle color in Kerasoy 4130 candle wax

Most dyes work with KeraSoy Container; powder, liquid, chips, blocks, etc. When using candle dyes, heat the wax to about 75°C, add the dye and mix until dissolved. Powdered dyes can also be dissolved in fragrance and then added to the melted wax. When using powdered dyes dissolved in fragrance, liquid dyes, color blocks, chips or no dye, the wax must be heated to 70°C. If you want to make your candle darker or “richer”, add a little black food coloring to the color you are using.

Candle fragrance oil in Kerasoy 4130 candle wax

KeraSoy Container can be used with fragrances up to 10-12%, but fragrances specifically designed for use with natural waxes are strongly recommended. The size and depth of the burn pool greatly affect the spread of the fragrance, so proper wicking is paramount. Some odors can react badly with the wax, which can lead to bleeding, a poor surface finish, or poor flame quality. This appears to be worse when using scents specifically designed for use in kerosene wax candles.

Wick for Kerasoy 4130 candle wax

Natural waxes usually require larger wick sizes than traditional kerosene waxes. Fragrance, color and candle configuration have a big influence on the best wick choice. A wick that is too large can lead to soot formation, accelerated burn times, and guttering (wax leaking through the side of the candle). A wick that is too small causes tunneling and produces a smaller flame. Keep the wicks trimmed to half an inch. If you experience poor flame quality or stability, try a different type of wick. Trial burning should be done after the candle has had a chance to stand for 48 hours after casting.

Melting Kerasoy 4130 candle wax

Temporarily high temperatures (up to 90°C) do not adversely affect in Kerasoy 4130 candle wax, provided the wax is quickly cooled again. Higher temperatures can discolor laundry. Allow the wax to cool to the desired pouring temperature, add the fragrance and mix well. Be sure to stir/mix the wax well during melting. Do not use containers that contain copper or zinc, as this may accelerate discoloration. Stainless steel is the material of choice, although mild steel is also acceptable. Digital temperature probes are readily available and are a safer choice than the traditional mercury-in-glass type.

Kerasoy 4130 candle wax casting

Casting temperatures can vary depending on the type and size of the cast, the fragrance and dye used, and the effects the candle maker wishes to achieve. Better adhesion to the containers can be achieved by casting at a temperature close to the solidification point (about 45 – 55°C). If possible, the fragrance should be added and mixed immediately before pouring. If you experience problems with your casting temperature, try a lower or higher temperature in 5 – 10°C increments. Consider casting in preheated molds for better adhesion to glass containers.

Candle wax double casting

KeraSoy Container 4130 is formulated so that it only needs to be poured once in most pots, but some large pots may require an additional pour to get the best candle surface. A small amount of wax at a slightly warmer temperature than the candle was poured can be used to top up the candle before the candle has cooled completely (pouring the top up once the candle has cooled completely can result in reduced adhesion to the holder).

Allow candles to cool

Allow the candles to stand undisturbed for 48 hours at room temperature before test burning them.

Test burning candles

Test the burning of the candle for diameter of the fire pole and “mushrooming” after the candle has cooled for 48 hours. Mushrooming is when carbon and/or other substances accumulate at the end of the wick and impede combustion. Mushrooming can cause soot formation and bad odors. Try different wicks until you have the desired diameter of the fire pole and a good clean flame.
