Haal de geur vandaag nog op en voeg hem toe aan maskers, scrubs en meer. Deze oliën zijn samengesteld met natuurlijke materialen. Individuele aromatische componenten worden geïsoleerd uit een plant en vervolgens gemengd met andere isolaten om een geurmengsel te maken. Wat zijn natuurlijke geuroliën en hoe worden ze gemaakt? Ze komen uit natuurlijke bronnen zoals komkommer, framboos en lavendel – maar hoe ze gemaakt worden is uniek. Planten bestaan uit meerdere aromatische componenten. Laten we bijvoorbeeld eens kijken naar Bulgaarse lavendel. Enkele van de belangrijkste bestanddelen zijn linalylacetaat, linalool, b-caryofylleen en terpinen-4-ol. Samen geven ze lavendel zijn kenmerkende bloemengeur. Om een natuurlijke geurolie te maken wordt één van deze stoffen uit de plant geïsoleerd. Deze afzonderlijke aromatische stoffen worden isolaten genoemd. Ze zijn ISO 9235, wat betekent dat ze door de Internationale Organisatie voor Standaardisatie als natuurlijk worden aangemerkt. Vervolgens wordt dat isolaat gemengd met andere uit verschillende planten. Linalylacetaat uit lavendel, dat bloemig en citrusachtig ruikt, zou gemengd kunnen worden met ethylacetaat uit sinaasappel, dat zoet en fruitig ruikt. Deze kunnen ook gemengd worden met essentiële oliën. Dit proces heeft verschillende voordelen. Omdat natuurlijke geuroliën bestaan uit meerdere componenten van verschillende planten, ruiken ze complex en kunnen ze interessanter zijn dan een enkele essentiële olie. Ze zijn ook consistenter omdat ze niet zo beïnvloed worden door batchvariatie. Er zijn ook meer natuurlijke opties om uit te kiezen. Bepaalde dingen, zoals vanille en aardbei, produceren geen essentiële oliën. Ze bestaan echter uit bestanddelen die geïsoleerd kunnen worden.
