- Safety equipment (rubber gloves, face mask, apron, eye protection, etc.).
- Soap mold
Ingredients for a DIY lemongrass and lavender soap recipe
- 481 gr olive oil
- 199 gr coconut oil
- 238 gr water
- 102 gr sodium hydroxide
- 15 gr shea butter
- 10 ml of lemongrass essential oil
- 5 ml peppermint essential oil
- 5 ml of lavender essential oil
- Isopropyl alcohol
- 1.5 teaspoon purple mica powder
- Dried calendula leaves for decoration
How to make a DIY lemongrass and lavender soap
- Before you start, put on your safety gear, including safety glasses and work gloves.
- Weigh all your ingredients accurately on a scale.
- Using a double boiler, slowly heat your oils until they reach the desired temperature of 70 degrees.
- Add the water to a heatproof measuring cup. Slowly add your lye, stirring constantly until dissolved. Perform this step in a well-ventilated area and be careful not to inhale the fumes.
- Put your lye water in an ice bath until it has cooled to the desired temperature of 70 degrees.
- When both the oil and the lye water are at 70 degrees, slowly pour the lye water into the oils while mixing with a blender.
- Mix until you reach a light trace (the consistency of pudding).
- Add your essential oils.
- Pour half of your uncolored soap into a silicone mold. Mix in calendula leaves with a spatula and smooth the layer. Then spray the top with isopropyl alcohol.
- Add your purple mica powder to the remaining soap and mix well.
- Carefully pour your purple-colored soap on top of the first layer. Smooth with a spatula. Put calendula leaves on the soap for decoration.
- Unmold your soap after the 48 hours and cut it into equal pieces.
- Place your soap on a rack and store in a cool, dark place to cure for 4-6 weeks.
