Olive Oil Pomace

Olive oil is one of the most popular soap ingredients. It gives cold process soap a soft, mild foam and can be used up to 100% of your recipe. Olive oil can also be used in a variety of products, including soaps, scrubs, lotions, and more.

Sodium Hydroxide Micro Pearls

Sodium hydroxide (NaOH), also known as lye, is an essential ingredient in soap making. When sodium hydroxide granules or flakes are mixed with a liquid, a lye solution is formed, which, when mixed with fats and oils, causes a chemical reaction called saponification. The result of saponification is beautiful handmade soap. Making soap is a wonderfully fun and addictive profession.

Ingredients for a DIY lemongrass and lavender soap recipe

How to make a DIY lemongrass and lavender soap

  1. Before you start, put on your safety gear, including safety glasses and work gloves.
  2. Weigh all your ingredients accurately on a scale.
  3. Using a double boiler, slowly heat your oils until they reach the desired temperature of 70 degrees.
  4. Add the water to a heatproof measuring cup. Slowly add your lye, stirring constantly until dissolved. Perform this step in a well-ventilated area and be careful not to inhale the fumes.
  5. Put your lye water in an ice bath until it has cooled to the desired temperature of 70 degrees.
  6. When both the oil and the lye water are at 70 degrees, slowly pour the lye water into the oils while mixing with a blender.
  7. Mix until you reach a light trace (the consistency of pudding).
  8. Add your essential oils.
  9. Pour half of your uncolored soap into a silicone mold. Mix in calendula leaves with a spatula and smooth the layer. Then spray the top with isopropyl alcohol.
  10. Add your purple mica powder to the remaining soap and mix well.
  11. Carefully pour your purple-colored soap on top of the first layer. Smooth with a spatula. Put calendula leaves on the soap for decoration.
  12. Unmold your soap after the 48 hours and cut it into equal pieces.
  13. Place your soap on a rack and store in a cool, dark place to cure for 4-6 weeks.
